"Love you Ms. Demings. You helped me when I was at my lowest, but you didn't give up. Nor did you judge me and J. for being the rough tattooed kids in class and that means a lot. You'll always be my school mom.

I went to Woodland High School and graduated in May of 2021. The first time I met Ms. Demings was through another teacher's recommendation for a club sponsor. I wanted to create a group my freshman year called Uniquely Diverse- basically teaching history that was/is never mentioned or even taught about in our classrooms. When we first met to discuss my proposal for the club, I automatically knew in my heart that I could trust her with not only the group but everything. She was never just my club sponsor but one of my favorite people too. She's the type of teacher everyone would want because she is understanding, kind, intelligent, informative, loving, caring, and the list could continue on. Ms. Demings has taught me so much about life and myself. Before I graduated high school, I was talking with her about my next steps and not wanting to go to college. I wanted to pursue ministry and public speaking and she supported me 100%. She has seen so much potential in me even when I didn't see it in myself. Now that I've graduated, I can confidently say that she is still one of my main supporters. Ms. Demings is more than just a teacher you have, then possibly forget about after you leave her classroom or even graduate, but she's one of the people who has changed and influenced my life for the better. I will forever be grateful for who she is, her heart, and her boldness.

I have been tutored by Ms. Kiyoko for almost a year. She has been invaluable in helping to get me on track and prepared to tackle my sophomore year; by sharing tools with me and study habits, I've been able to chart a path that has positively benefitted my education. Entering college, I didn't possess many basic study skills to be successful; while I had completed high school as an honors student, it was clear I would need to adjust if I was to be successful at the university level. Ms. Kiyoko's proposed study skills have helped to change my college experience, from helping with speech pattern practices to helping me plan my calendars. While it may sound simple, it's clear in the long term it has benefitted me, I and others have seen the clear changes that it has made. When Ms. Kiyoko works with you, she's not just trying to teach you, she's trying to craft a path forward for you to maximize your potential. She's not just trying to "fix" what went wrong, she's trying to improve you, by combining the best of what you can already do with her methods. In eight months, I feel like I've already learned a lifetime of information from Ms. Kioyoko. Through her knowledge and invaluable methods, I have not only picked up study skills but life skills that will further help me progress in my career of choice and my life.

Literature, written works, especially those considered of superior or lasting artistic merit, and words convey the message that paint the image of feelings that spark thoughts. And like a wildfire of relation, the creation of a conversation has begun. But with every fire you need your kindle, something, or in some cases someone that has the aura of inspiration and is able to hold and produce a flame of such significant vivacity that it will burn for centuries to come. My kindling is Mrs. Demings. Highschool was a tough place for me, as I’m sure it was and will continue to be for generations to come. I had really bad social skills, in some circumstances I would just freeze thinking of having a conversation and not knowing what to say, but the art of literature helped me see past that and I’m not talking about the teacher that hands you a five-hundred-page book and expects an essay by the end of the month, I’m talking about Mrs. Demings, someone who will take you in and nurture you as one of her own kin through the seeds of knowledge and wisdom. Having the ability to induce feelings on a relatable scale to another individual through speech is euphoric. Words mean nothing without having the right stream to channel them through, and Mrs. Demings provided that stream. Some days I would be in a really deep rut, same halls, same faces, same smells, I would walk by every student and every teacher on the verge of breaking down in tears, but Mrs. Demings would stop me, and her sheer appearance would cheer me up. She has the presence of a goddess, her aura glows through the dark, she is connected spiritually, physically and mentally to all her students, she makes a difference in how my days play out. Since high school I’ve now joined the Airforce, she’s seen me go through every step of the way and there’s no way in hell I could’ve done it without her. I’m sure she has all kinds of teacher awards and medals, but the reason I’m writing this today is to say thank you. I want to thank you for being there when I had no one to go to. Thank you for going the extra mile into every student and helping them grow spiritually as well as mentally. And to thank you, for being you.
